What Is Add/Remove Line Breaks?

Choose how to join or insert physical line breaks in plain text. Five actions cover joining wrapped paragraphs, removing breaks, collapsing repeated breaks, double spacing and splitting sentence segments. This does not repair OCR mistakes, remove hyphenation or understand document layout.

How to Use Add/Remove Line Breaks

1. Paste text or load Sample.
2. Choose an action. Join Paragraphs joins adjacent nonblank lines while retaining blank separators.
3. Leave Trim line edges off to keep source edge whitespace, or enable it deliberately.
4. For eligible actions, optionally remove whitespace-only lines after formatting.
5. Review output, then Copy. If Copy fails, select the output manually.

How Add/Remove Line Breaks Works

CRLF, LF and lone CR are recognized on input and deliberately normalized to LF for these transformations. Remove All Breaks replaces each separator with a space without collapsing other spacing. Remove Extra Breaks collapses consecutive LF separators to one; Double Space collapses each run to two. A whitespace-only line interrupts a run unless Trim line edges makes it empty.

Join Paragraphs inserts a space only between adjacent nonblank lines. Split Sentences uses Intl.Segmenter sentence granularity with locale en on each physical line. It retains original sentence slices, including trailing whitespace, and adds LF between them. It does not perform grammatical analysis or guarantee abbreviation handling.

When to Use Add/Remove Line Breaks

Common Mistakes

Trim is off by default. Enabling it removes leading and trailing Unicode whitespace from every source line, which can change code indentation or meaningful spaces. Remove empty lines runs after formatting and is inactive for Remove All Breaks and Double Space. It can remove paragraph boundaries and final empty lines.

Sentence boundaries can differ by runtime Unicode version, and the segmenter may split abbreviations or leave unusual punctuation together. Existing physical lines are not automatically merged before sentence splitting. Missing support shows an error for this action. Input and output allow at most 20,000 lines; input is limited to 1,000,000 UTF-16 units and output to 5,000,000. Oversized results are blocked, not truncated.

Tips for Better Results

Keep the original if you are editing code, tables or poetry. A newline at the end is part of the input and may be transformed too. Browser paste or Copy can normalize endings. For whitespace conversion without intentionally changing separators, try Convert Tabs/Spaces.
